**READ FIRST: Ever since I started cutting out sugar in my diet, my taste buds have changed, so I did not need to add a lot of sweetener to this recipe. You may need to add more sweetener for your liking; however, I don't know if it would change the texture (make it more chewy) because I did not test it out
Ingredients:
- 1 large can chickpeas (540mL/ 19oz)
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- water
- 1 tbsp honey or any other sweetener (you can use more or less - read above!)
- 1 egg
- 1.5 scoop protein
- 7 heaping tbsp flax meal
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
Directions:
- Preheat oven 350 F
- Pulse then mix chickpeas in food processor until it is all mashed (about 5 minutes)
- Mix cocoa with small drops of water until it becomes like a sauce
- Add the cocoa and water mixture along with the rest of the ingredients to the chickpeas
- Mix in food processor until all ingredients are combined
- Bake for about 15-20 minutes (I used a baking sheet lined with wax paper and formed a rectangle about 8 inches by 5.5 inches)
- Let it cool for about 5 minutes (until it hardens a little bit)
Store in the fridge, and warm it up in the microwave before you serve :)
Makes 24 small bars
40 calories each
Notes:
You could probably add more protein and use less flax but I did not test it out
Try eliminating red meat from the diet. Steak has plenty of saturated fats that is bad for the body, especially your heart. Try lean meats rather than red meats. This consists of fish and poultry.
